(Good?) Practices on mentorship

Updated: Feb 14, 2020

What makes a good mentor? I do not know.

Unfairly, this is just another skill that we are expected to do well, without actually receiving any formal training on it. Most of us had to learn the hard way - by our mistakes. But experiences are powerful and we can use that to learn from one another.

This past meeting we discussed practices and tips that helped us wade through the muddy path of mentoring students. They are by no means the best standards that exist out there, but might help promote an welcomed self-reflection on how and why we mentor students.

Check out our notes and recording from our past meeting! Benjamin Ha shared a very cool resource that you might be interested - a workshop taught by Diana Azurdia on mentorship at UCLA (https://bioscience.ucla.edu/EMT).
